CHENNAI: The Federation of North Chennai Residents' Welfare Associations, a group of more than 25 associations, along with Exnora International recently launched a "God save North Chennai" campaign to highlight their civic problems.

In a press release, the Federation has said North Chennai — comprising Chennai Corporation Zones I, II and III — has always been in stark contrast to the rest of the city in terms of civic infrastructure and maintenance.

They added that the presence of the Kodungaiyur dumping ground as being a negative factor to the overall growth of the region.

Peaceful agitation

N.S. Ramachandra Rao, general secretary of the federation, has said the residents would resort to peaceful agitation to shift the dumping ground. He also added the residents were opposed to the mechanical compost plant that the Corporation had planned in the area.

M.B. Nirmal, Exnora International founder president, said decentralised solid waste management at ward level was a better option.

Residents' associations in North Chennai also listed the commencement of the rail-over-bridge project at Vyasarpadi and the desilting of Captain Canal.
