Gagan Narang felicitated

Special Correspondent

No official announcement on rewards or recognition

Hyderabad: The felicitation function for badminton medal winners of the recent Melbourne Commonwealth Games (CWG) on Monday had begun an hour and a quarter late. But on Tuesday, it was the other way round as it began too early.

A SAAP communiqué on Monday evening had informed that the winner of four CWG golds and the 10 metre air rifle title at the Guangzhou World Cup, Gagan Narang, would be felicitated at the residence of the Sports Minister in Kundanbagh on Tuesday at 11.30 a.m. But the function, which began at 10.30 a.m., was already over when members of the fourth estate arrived. But there was no official announcement on rewards or recognition.

Interestingly, the top brass of SAAP had gone on a visit to `study' the infrastructure at Melbourne when the Games were on. But none of them found time to congratulate Narang, who won four gold medals spaced out over almost a fortnight.
