Party workers led by MP Madhu stage rasta roko

Hyderabad: A large number of activists led by CPI(M) MP P. Madhu organised a `rasta roko' at Bibi Bazar in the old city on Tuesday, demanding restoration of the Charminar bus station.

Traffic was thrown out of gear and a couple of RTC buses were forced to ply via Moghalpura touching the old bus station. Later, Mr. Madhu and the CPI (M) workers courted arrest.

Earlier, they took out a rally from the Charminar bus station to Bibi Bazar where they stopped the buses. Members of Awaaz, PUCAAR, DYFI, CITU also took part in the protest rally.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Madhu asked the MCH to make necessary changes in the Charminar Pedestrianisation Project allowing plying of the buses through the old bus station. An all-party meeting would be held on April 6 at Charminar to finalise an action plan for restoration of the bus station, Mr. Madhu said.

He said the shifting of the bus station was causing lot of inconvenience to the commuters. Besides the business was badly affected in around Charminar as people were finding it difficult to come here. Tourists and patients visiting the Unani hospital were also put to trouble. He wondered why the bus station was shifted when it was beyond the CPP zone.

Holding placards, the rallyists demanded justice and immediate restoration of the bus station.
