HYDERABAD: Mayor Teegala Krishna Reddy shot down the proposal to hike admission fees for children participating in MCH annual summer coaching camps at the standing committee meeting on Tuesday. Officials sought the panel's nod for doubling fees from Rs. 10 to Rs. 20 for second category games and Rs. 50 to Rs. 100 for roller-skating, cricket, tennis and badminton for summer camps from this year. However, Mr. Reddy said it did not make any sense to increase the fees as revenues accrued from it would be marginal. Children between six to 18 years of age from poor sections too participate in the camps, he pointed out. The committee once again discussed delay in execution of works amounting to a massive Rs. 482 crores, including construction of 82 cement roads and laying of BT roads in all the 100 divisions of the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad.
Cement prices
Members felt that the sudden rise in cement prices has made contractors reluctant to take up road works. They wanted the officials to work out some solution so that contractors were compensated for the hike. Chief Engineer Dhan Singh was asked to submit a report in four days time on the issue. The panel has also asked officials not to evict bookstall owners at Koti without coming out with an appropriate rehabilitation package for the entire lot. "If 60 to 70 booksellers are to be accommodated in the subway what about the rest? We should not be seen as being discriminate," said a member.
