SHRC seeks explanation

Thiruvananthapuram: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Tuesday sought an explanation from the District Collector, the Secretary of the City Corporation and the Superintendent of the Medical College Hospital on the allegation that used syringes and blood bags are being `spirited away' from the hospital to adjoining State for recycling. Commission member S. Varghese gave the directive on a petition filed by district president of the All India Youth Federation (AIYF) P.K. Raju demanding action against those supporting it and intervention of the SHRC. — Staff Reporter

One killed in accident

Thiruvananthapuram: A pedestrian was killed when he was hit by a car at Korani junction in the Mangalapuram police station limits on Tuesday afternoon. The police identified the deceased as Ismail, a local resident. The police have booked the car driver on the charge of rash and negligent driving. — Staff Reporter

Summer camp

Thiruvananthapuram: Principal Secretary to SC/ST Department Romanus Horo inaugurated the summer camp organised by Trivandrum Don Bosco Veedu Society on Tuesday. The month-long camp is aimed at developing the creative, physical and mental abilities of children. — Staff Reporter

Donation

Thiruvananthapuram: The Savitha Charitable Society has donated Rs.25,000 to the Regional Cancer Centre to buy medicines for indigent patients. The funds were collected from the proceeds of the magic show of Gopinath Muthukad held at University Senate Hall on August 19 last year. — Staff Reporter
