ON CAMPAIGN TRAIL: Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi greeting veteran Congress leader Henry Austin at the UDF convention for Thripunithura Assembly constituency from where K. Babu is seeking re-election for the fourth time. Pho to: Vipin Chandran
KOCHI: The United Democratic Front (UDF) Government has a development agenda with the future of the youth in mind while Left Democratic Front campaign led by V. S. Achuthanandan's "sadistic approach to development" is like making a sacrifice of the youth, said Vayalar Ravi, after inaugurating the UDF convention for the Thripunithura Assembly constituency. Setting the tempo of campaign for K. Babu, who is seeking to be elected a fourth time from here, Mr. Ravi said that the UDF has implemented a number of social justice schemes during its tenure. He said that Mr. Achudanandan had opposed the setting up of a Smart City here making allegations against the land deal for the IT city. However, he is quiet about the land given away by his comrades in West Bengal, where 3,500 acres have been given away for investment at a low price for a 90-year lease. An investment is made with the aim of profit, he added. The LDF has nothing to showcase on the development agenda for society, Mr. Ravi said. It is in their bid to expand their acceptance that the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI (M) has joined hands with organisations such as the Indian National League (INL) and the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Ravi said. At the convention, Congress leader A.C. Jose; GCDA chairman Antony Issac; V.V. Joshi, Kerala Congress (M) State secretary; V.C. Ravi, CMP district secretary; DCC general secretaries M. Premachandran, A.B. Sabu and Youth Congress State general secretary M.R. Abhilash spoke. KPCC general secretary Benny Behanan; DCC president K.P. Dhanapalan; S.H. P. Thangal, President of Thripunithura Assembly segment of Muslim League, M.R. Rajan, CMP Central Council member and K.T. Vimalan, Secretary of RSP (M)'s Thripunithura Assembly segment were among those who attended the convention.
