NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs.1 lakh for the next of kin of those who lost their lives and Rs. 50,000 to those injured in the Yamuna Pushta fire at Shakarpur in East Delhi on Monday. Ms. Dikshit visited the spot to supervise the relief and rehabilitation operation. She said those who had lost their jhuggis in the fire would be given a financial assistance of Rs. 1,000 each. She also directed the deputy commissioner concerned to personally ensure that relief operations were carried out properly. The Chief Minister said the Disaster Management Committee would train the jhuggi dwellers in ways to fight such eventualities. The fire department on Tuesday said only five bodies have been recovered so far. The deceased have been identified as Ruby, Manoj, Maya Rani, Nimboo Lal and Mohammad Tasheen.
