This Day That Age
The Speaker's usual "call" for silence did not work in the Lok Sabha on April 4. Normally, when the proceedings are disturbed by conversation among members, Mr. Ananthasayanam Ayyangar's gentle method of drawing their attention to the business before the House is to call for a one-minute silence. When the technique proved unsuccessful, the Speaker said angrily: "Let all members finish talking to one another. How are we to work here if members go on indulging in conversation in this House?"
