Sangareddy: Considering the increased threat to irrigation projects from extremist outfits, the Government has decided to strengthen security around the structures. Disclosing this to the press here on Wednesday, Home Minister K.Jana Reddy said that measures have been taken to counter any action by extremists. However, he said that providing security to sensitive installations is routine work for the police but looking at the nefarious plans of the terrorists the police were told to be vigilant.
Action on contractors
Responding a question on alleged donations by the contractors of irrigation projects to the Maoists the Minister answered that action would be initiated on any one who funds the banned organisations. He pointed out that the allegations of political hand in the Mahbubnagar issue were baseless and said that there could be no politics when any terrified contractor wants to negotiate with the extremists. He also denied that there is any corruption in the construction of irrigation projects in the State.
Recruitment process
Further elaborating on the announcement made by the State DIG Swaranjit Sen in Delhi on recruitment, the Home Minister said that 6200 constables and 480 Sub-inspector posts would be filled during the current drive. He said that the process of recruitment is in motion now. While accepting shortage of men in the police force Mr Jana Reddy said that home guards would be manned in those stations, which require additional force.
Declines comment
He said that 20,000 home guards had been recruited in the recent times. Declining to comment on the advise of the former Union Minister of State for Home Ch.Vidyasagar Rao to accord Cabinet status to Girglani for effective implementation of GO 610, Mr Jana Reddy said that it could be his personal opinion and he has nothing to add to it.
Unveils statue
Earlier, the Home Minister unveiled the statue of Babu Jagjivan Ram and addressed a meeting organised by the department of social welfare. He also distributed financial assistance to Dalit beneficiaries. Minister for minority welfare Mohammad Fariduddin, district collector B.Venkatesam, MLA T.Jayaprakash Reddy, SP B.L.Sujatha Rao, ZP chairperson Sunitha H.Patil, and municipal chairperson B.Vijaya Lakshmi also participated in the meeting. Later, the Home Minister also participated in several programmes in Zaheerabad.
