CHENNAI: DMK president M. Karunanidhi on Wednesday denied the reported charge of fans of film actor Sarathkumar that they were not being given due respect in the election campaign. Talking to reporters, he said he held Sarathkumar in high regard and esteem. Party workers also gave him respect. Recently, at the party conference, he was one of the key speakers. Denying that the fans had sought four seats, he said only two seats had been sought, Tirunelveli and Sankarankoil. The Tirunelveli seat had been allocated after taking into consideration the views of other party office-bearers too. On those denied the party ticket switching over to another party, he said in every party there were those who sought positions of power.
Sonia visit
To a question, Mr. Karunanidhi said Congress president Sonia Gandhi had confirmed her visit to Tamil Nadu; only the dates needed to be finalised. Asked about the progress of seat sharing talks in Pondicherry, he said the talks would be concluded when they needed to be. On the nomination of a DMK candidate for a seat allotted to the Indian Union Muslim League, he said though three seats had been given to the IUML initially, later, after talks with that party, it was decided to field a DMK candidate from that seat.
