EVMs to be demonstrated

Thiruvananthapuram: Electronic voting machines (EVMs)will be demonstrated at different places in the Nemom Assembly segment from April 6 to 12 to familiarise the public with its functioning. The machines will be kept at the panchayat offices at Balaramapuram and Pallichal and Nemom corporation zonal office on April 6. The machine will be kept at Nemom village office and Vilavoorkal panchayat and village offices on April 10, panchayat offices at Vilappil and Malayinkeezh, Vilappil village office on April 12. The machines will be demonstrated at Malayinkeezh village office and Maranellor panchayat and village offices during these days from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Staff Reporter

Spirit seized

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Excise official seized 4,320 litres of spirit valued at Rs.5 lakhs from a lorry at Amaravila check-post on Wednesday. Excise Assistant Commissioner E. Shihabudeen said the spirit was stored in 135 jerry cans in a fish lorry. The driver and cleaner of the lorry escaped. The spirit was carted in a lorry owned by P. Sundaram, a resident of Kannaki Nagar at Thorapakkom in Chennai, Mr. Shihabudeen said.

Woman dead

Thiruvananthapuram: A fisherwoman, who was travelling in the back of a carrier autorickshaw, was killed after she was thrown off the vehicle near Adimalathurai on Wednesday morning. She was brought dead to Medical College Hospital. She was identified as Maria Nakshathram, 37, of Pulluvila. — Staff Reporter
