THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The city police on Wednesday sought the services of a veterinary expert to examine the remains of the carcass of a male black buck that was buried on the zoo premises in March.

The police had registered a case of theft under section 379 of the Indian Penal Code after the zoo authorities reported that the skull and antlers of the animal were stolen after it was buried. An official said the examination was to ascertain whether the animal had antlers.

The black buck is an animal included in schedule one of the Wildlife (Protection) Act of 1972 along with engendered animals such as the tiger and the lion.
