dated April 7, 1956: Demarcation of border

India has suggested to Pakistan the holding of a conference of the Surveyors-General of India and Pakistan on April 11 in New Delhi to work out arrangements for the demarcation of the frontier between West Pakistan and India. The suggestion, made on April 4, forms part of the correspondence over Indo-Pakistan frontier, now being exchanged between New Delhi and Karachi, both at the Prime Ministers' level and at the Secretaries' level. India has expressed the view that since the entire Indo-Pakistan frontier cannot be demarcated all at once, a start should be made at the border between Indian Punjab and West Pakistan and that this particular demarcation should be on the basis of the Radcliffe Award, which partitioned the Punjab. India has not ruled out the possibility of adjustments, by mutual agreement of the two Governments, on the actual implementation of the Radcliffe Award.
