NEW DELHI: A one-of-its-kind solo art exhibition by Katarzyna Pollok is now on at All-India Fine Arts and Crafts Society here on Rafi Marg. Born in Ukraine, Pollok grew up in Poland. She lived and worked in Germany as a journalist and a dancer before becoming a painter and eventually a sculptor. She has drawn inspiration for her pieces of art from the holocaust witnessed by her father. In 2001 and 2002 Pollok had successful art shows in India. Besides New Delhi, her exhibitions were held at the Museum of Fine Arts in Chandigarh and the State Library in Patiala. Abroad her exhibitions have been held in Hungary, Berlin and London. As a youngster, she did street performances with different groups and still found time to take singing lessons with rock bands like "Heart Attack" and "Tao". Her hour of reckoning came when her first exhibition was held in Germany. From 1988 to 1991 she worked as a journalist for "Radio 100" that was the first multi-cultural radio in Germany, specialising on minority affairs and human rights and intensive anti-racist activities. Former Indian High Commissioner to Britain L.M. Singhvi, who inaugurated the exhibition, says that Pollock's paintings of Radha Krishna, Vishnu and Gypsy wheel depict Indian-ness. Though the exhibition at AIFACS ends on Friday, discerning connoisseurs in the Capital can catch up with the artist at her weeklong exhibition opening at Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan on Kasturba Gandhi Marg on Saturday.
