NELLORE: For the first time in the history of Nellore district, a public debate on developmental activities in Udayagiri constituency will be conducted on Friday amid tight security at the Mandal Revenue Office at Udayagiri.

The Lok Satta and Jana Vignana Vedika representatives will coordinate the debate, in which Udayagiri MLA Mekapati Chandrasekhara Reddy and former TDP MLA Kambham Vijayaram Reddy will showcase their developmental activities.

    Tight security

Both Mr Chandrasekhara Reddy and Mr Vijayaram Reddy have been posing challenges to each other over the development of the constituency. And both of them have finally agreed to hold a public debate in the midst of media , and Lok Satta and Jana Vignana Vedika representatives to find out who has done better service to the Udayagiri constituency. "Both the Collector and Superintendent of Police have given us the permission to hold the debate with certain conditions such as imposing Section 144 in Udayagiri during the debate. Moreover, only the media, select intellectuals, representatives of Lok Satta and Jana Vignana Vedika will be allowed amid tight security," Chandrasekhara Reddy told reporters on Thursday.

"We have in fact agreed to hold the debate at the APSRTC bus stand at Udayagiri with a view to increasing the reach of our debate. But the police rejected our proposal on security front and instead asked us to hold it at the MRO office under the police and official supervision," the MLA said.
