Madikeri: Madikeri has come alive in view of the visit of President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. He will participate in the General K.S. Thimayya Centenary celebrations on Friday. Thousands are expected to savour the breathtaking skydiving that is being organised for the first time in Kodagu. Skydivers are set to jump from a height of over 6,000 ft and open their parachutes when they come close to 3,000 metres. They would land before Dr. Kalam, who would have arrived here at the special helipad at 12.35 p.m. The rehearsal of the motorcycle show by the ASC `Daredevils' enthralled people here on Wednesday. Music bands from the ASC, MEG and Kumaon Regiment from Ranikhet will regale the audience during the show. The main dais at the Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa College grounds is spruced up to receive Dr. Kalam. Only nine persons can be accommodated on the main dais. President of the Federation of Kodava Samajas Ballachanda A. Nanaiah will lead the President to the dais after he arrives at the venue from the helipad. Dr. Kalam, who is expected to land at the Golf Course helipad at 12.35 p.m. would be driven to the venue in a bullet-proof motorcade. He is the third President to visit Kodagu. Rajendra Prasad came here in the 1960s and Neelam Sanjiva Reddy in the 1970s. Armymen have taken over the helipad. Chief of the Air Staff S.P. Tyagi is among the dignitaries who will attend the centenary celebrations. The entry city has been spruced up to receive the President. Governor T.N. Chaturvedi, Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa will be attending the event.
