NEW DELHI: J.K. Sharma, a 1982 batch police officer, was on Wednesday appointed Joint Commissioner of Police (Planning) for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in the Capital. Mr. Sharma was earlier posted as Joint Commissioner of Police (Training) and had also held charge of Additional Commissioner of Police (Security). Incidentally, there was a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation against him for disproportionate assets but he came out clean and was cleared of all allegations. Later, he was promoted to the rank of Joint Commissioner and transferred to Police Training College. With this posting, the Delhi police have stepped up their efforts towards preparation for a foolproof security plan for the Commonwealth Games. For a first-hand knowledge of security arrangements, a team comprising at least five police officers had visited Melbourne in Australia to attend the recently concluded Commonwealth Games. The officers will share their experiences with their seniors and other departments concerned. It is learnt that the Delhi police have already conceptualised various aspects of security to be provided during the 2010 Commonwealth Games. The police are now waiting for the basic infrastructure to come up before finalising an elaborate security plan.
