NEW DELHI: Accusing the Delhi Government of adopting a "discriminatory" attitude towards problems being faced by lakhs of people living in unauthorised colonies across the Capital, three Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party legislators -- Vijay Jolly, Mohan Singh Bisht and Kulwant Rana -- have demanded a special session of the Delhi Assembly to discuss the critical situation arising out of sealing of thousands of premises across the city. In a joint statement, the three MLAs said what was happening across the Capital was unfortunate and the Delhi Government had turned a blind eye to the sufferings of lakhs of people who faced displacement due to the present sealing exercise. "The Delhi Cabinet should immediately recommend to the Union Government to bring in an Ordinance to put an end to the ongoing demolitions and sealing drive in the city," the statement demanded. Describing the sanitation drive launched by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in unauthorised colonies as nothing but a "political stunt", these MLAs said that by raising the allocation for each colony along with a raise in the sanitation grant from Rs. 76 crores to Rs. 100 crores for 488 unauthorised colonies for cleanliness works would yield nothing. Also, they pointed out that there was nothing in this package for the remaining 944 unauthorised colonies.
