Slice of Italian culture
Staff Reporter
Actor Pooja said that her love for Italian food aroused her curiosity about the `Italian Film Festival', which was inaugurated on Wednesday.
As the opening film, Romeo and Juliet, bore the title that was used in a couple of Kannada films and one Tamil film, she said, "So, I thought I'd watch the original." It is one of the two Franco Zeffirelli films being screened. The other is The Taming of the Shrew, which will bring the festival to a close on April 8 at 7.30 p.m. Organised by the Italian Cultural Institute, New Delhi, Consulate of Italy, Chennai, and the Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation, the festival was inaugurated at the South Indian Film Chamber Theatre by K.C.N. Chandrasekar, president of South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The guest of honour, Guido Sagone, Consulate of Italy, said that films were a good way of understanding Italian customs and way of life.
On April 6 the festival will show The Soul Keeper by Roberto Faenza at 6.15 p.m. and Divorce Italian Style at 8 p.m. April 8 brings you The Monster by Roberto Benigni at 4 p.m., while House Keys by Gianni Amelio is at 5.45 p.m. and The Taming of the Shrew by Franco Zeffirelli at 7.30 p.m.
