Chingari conveys a social message

S.R. Ashok Kumar

Sushmita Sen in `Chingari'.

Chingari, starring Mithun Chakraborthy and Sushmita Sen, is bound to make waves in Chennai.

Directed by Kalpana Lajme (remember her earlier work in Rudaali), Chingari's storyline revolves around a commercial sex worker, played by Sushmita Sen, who is raped by a fakir, played by Mithun, who does not like the romance that blooms between a young man and the protagonist. How the woman exposes the `swamy' in clever fashion is the rest of the story.

Apparently, the story did not have many takers, and many top actors were reluctant to do the movie. Both Sushmita Sen and Mithun Chakraborthy have given powerful performances.

The film, which has many explosive scenes, has an underlying social message.
