Lions Clubs convention tomorrow

CHENNAI : The annual two-day convention of the Lions Clubs International Dist. 324-A1 will be begin on Saturday.

S. Natarajan, District Governor, said on the inaugural day J. Sreedharan, Chief Commissioner, Customs (Preventive) would participate in the convention. On that day, the organisation would also honour two eminent personalities — Nithyasree Mahadevan, Carnatic vocalist, and V. Mohan, renowned diabetologist.

Explaining the projects completed during 2005-2006, Dr. Natarajan said that with the support of 77 clubs, the organisation had carried out service activities worth over Rs 14.5 crore. The organisation had 14 permanent projects.

It spent Rs 10.5 crore on the permanent projects and Rs 4.5 crore on programmes such as road safety, police boys club activities, AIDS awareness and rain water harvesting, he added.
