KOCHI: Support of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in the Assembly elections is regrettable, said Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi here on Thursday. Inaugurating an election convention of the Congress candidate, K.V. Thomas, in Ernakulam, Mr. Ravi said the United Democratic Front (UDF) Government had taken all possible steps to get the PDP leader Abdul Nasir Maudany released from a Coimbatore jail. The UDF leaders, including Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Indian Union Muslim League State general secretary P.K. Kunhalikutty, had met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister to plead the case of Maudany. Leaders of the front had visited him in jail. At the same time, the CPI(M) had never supported his cause, and it was just a few weeks ago that the party's fellow traveller T.K. Hamza, MP, met him in jail.
