The police said that around 8 a.m., the police jeep hit Muniyappa, a pedestrian and a resident of Ganapathinagar, at Dasarahalli, off Jaimunirao Circle. Muniyappa was killed on the spot. The driver Veeranna was on his way to pick up Madivala Traffic Inspector Mudde Gowda from his house in Malleswaram police quarters. The Kamakshipalya traffic police have registered a case and arrested Veeranna.
Man set on fire
A man, accused in vehicle theft cases, doused his accomplice with petrol and allegedly set him on fire in Magadi Road police station limits on Wednesday night. Santosh, who sustained severe burns, has been admitted in Victoria Hospital. The police said Santosh and Arun, who were arrested in vehicle theft cases and were released from jail recently, along with Akram, were riding a motorcycle at Gopalapura. While Arun was pouring petrol into the motorcycle's fuel tank from a can, petrol spilled on Santosh's clothes. This led to a quarrel and Arun allegedly poured petrol on Santosh and set him on fire, the police said. The Magadi Road police have arrested Arun.
