dated April 8, 1956: PM's present to museum

Several valuable national heirlooms were presented to the Allahabad Museum by Prime Minister Nehru during his visit there on April 6. These include two packets of salt manufactured by Mahatma Gandhi at Dandi on April 6, 1930, a history ticket of Jawaharlal Nehru, an old rusty clock of Mahatma Gandhi, a diary of Swaroop Rani Nehru (Nehru's mother) and purses and buttons of Pandit Motilal Nehru. Mr. Nehru desired that his family collections should be preserved in the Allahabad Museum. The history ticket of Mr. Nehru shows that he was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment on May 19, 1922. The ticket also indicates the weight lost by Mr. Nehru in the Lucknow jail. Explaining how Mahatmaji's clock came into his possession, Mr. Nehru said the clock had a very bad appearance. He, therefore, took it from Mahatmaji and gave him a new watch in return.
