dated April 8, 1956: 3-year degree course

In the Madras Legislative Council on April 6, Mr. C. Subramaniam, Education Minister, appealed to the authorities of the Madras University to consider the possibility of postponing by a year the introduction of their scheme of three-year degree course and one-year pre-university course. He said sufficient time had not been given to the colleges to get themselves ready for the introduction of the scheme from the next academic year. Also, neither the Government nor he in the capacity of Pro-Chancellor had been informed beforehand of the university's decision. Dr. A. Lakshmanaswami Mudaliar, Leader of the Opposition and Vice-Chancellor of the Madras University, said the observations of the Minister about his not having been informed about the matter would be placed before the Syndicate for consideration.
