dated April 8, 1956: Rajaji explains

Mr. C. Rajagopalachari, who has sent in his resignation from the Congress Legislature Party, said in Madras on April 7 that there was no special reason for his resignation. "My membership in the Legislative Council ceases on the 20th of this month and I cannot be a member in the Congress Legislature Party without being a member in one of the two Houses of the Legislature. The Governor was kind enough to ask whether I would agree to be nominated again and I have respectfully expressed my unwillingness to be nominated. There is no special reason whatsoever beyond this."
