ELURU: The boycott threat given by the Joint Action Committee of Teachers (JACTO) casts a shadow over the spot valuation of SSC papers in West Godavari district commencing on Saturday. The authorities of the District Education Office have made all arrangements for the spot valuation which will last till April 18. About 1,500 teachers from different parts of the district will be drafted for the valuation of 11 papers from 11 districts involving the future of over 5 lakh students. Panchayat Raj Teachers Union district secretary P. Venkateswara Rao said a meeting of the district level Steering Committee of JACTO which met here on Friday decided to go ahead with the State-wide call. As per the decision, the leaders of 12 teacher organisations who form part of the steering committee will organise a dawn-to-dusk picketing in front of the main gates of Xavier School in the city, the venue of the spot valuation and prevent teachers from entering the valuation centre on Saturday. Later, a procession will be taken out to the district Collectorate in the evening, according to Mr. Venkateswara Rao. The picketing programme would continue through out the spot valuation period, he added. District Education Officer P. Parvati, however, was hopeful of a last minute rapprochement between the striking teachers and the government, enabling spot valuation to be a hassle-free exercise.
