Corrections and clarifications

In "Fukuyama's take on Islam and Islamists" (Editorial page, April 6, 2006), the reference to "quoting the devil on the scriptures" has a reader protesting over the "mixed-up idiom". The proverb of course is "the devil can quote scripture for his purpose", which means "people may conceal unworthy motives by reciting words that sound morally authoritative." Hasan Suroor has made a conscious twist of the proverb to explain why Francis Fukuyama's views are significant.

In the Thiruvananthapuram report "Support sought for SBI staff strike" (From the South, April 7, 2006), the All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) has been incorrectly referred to as the All India Bank Employees' Federation. The AIBEA is an independent trade union representing the largest number of bank employees and is a majority union in most banks, according to one of its central committee members.

"Universities from Dutch scout for Indian students" (Madurai, April 7, 2006) was a headline that baffled one reader, who says it must be either "Universities from the Netherlands scout for Indian students" or "Dutch universities scout for Indian students". The headline was corrected in later editions.
