Rupee gains

MUMBAI: The rupee ended firm against the dollar on Friday on expectations of heavy foreign fund inflow and closed at 44.6850/6950 a dollar at the interbank foreign exchange market.

The Indian unit opened a shade lower at 44.72/73 a dollar against Wednesday's close of 44.7150/7250 a dollar, but later recovered to close at 44.6850/6950, smartly higher than the previous close.

The net foreign institutional inflows in the Indian equities have crossed the $4 billion mark in the current calendar year, dealers said. The rupee also ended firm against other world currencies. . — PTI
