White paper on Siachen talks sought

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy on Friday demanded a white paper on the Siachen talks. In a statement, he expressed opposition to any pull-out of troops from the area.

Dr. Swamy said the Constitution did not provide for a de-merger of any territory of India, and hence it was futile to hold talks with Pakistan on Kashmir. "The Janata Party holds that the State of Jammu and Kashmir became an integral, inseparable part of India after the Instrument of Accession was signed in October 1947. Questioning of this instrument by Pakistan will imply the questioning of [the] Partition itself," he said in a statement.
