ERODE: As many as 2.60 lakh children below five years of age will be given polio drops on April 9, said Collector D. Karthikeyan on Friday. He said last year polio drops were given on April 5 and again on May 15. In the first phase, 2,64,450 children were administered the drops and in the second phase 2,67,052 children were immunised. This time the drops would be given to 2.6 lakh children. The Collector said 1,562 centres in rural areas and 105 centres in urban areas were opened and the polio drops would be taken to the centres on Saturday. He said special care would be given to provide the drops to the children in hill areas. Special vehicles were also arranged to transport the vaccine to interior villages. The Health Department had arranged the services of medical and para medical staff for the campaign.
