Belgaum: Kannada organisations in the district are looking up to Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy with hope, even as they urged the latter to concede certain major demands pending for about five years. Addressing presspersons here on Friday, the former mayor and veteran Kannada leader Siddangouda Patil and district Kannada Organisations Action Committee president Ashok Chandargi said the major demands include the remodelling of the Rs. 129-crore drinking water supply and drainage system for the city, holding of legislative session in Belgaum, relocating the divisional offices shifted from Belgaum to Dharwad and Bangalore, establishment of a law university, appointment of senior IAS official having no inclination towards pro-Maharashtra forces as Commissioner of Belgaum City Corporation, commencement of work on Kalasa-Banduri Nala project and establishment of a software technology park in the city. They said that Belgaum was neglected by successive governments. There are hopes that Mr. Kumaraswamy might announce some major projects during his meeting with Kannada organisations here on Saturday. Leaders of Kannada organisations and legislators of all the parties from district met the Chief Minister last month and submitted a memorandum with a set of demands. The Chief Minister reportedly promised to visit Belgaum and ascertain for himself the situation and look into issues concerning the development of the district.
