Chinnara Mela commences on April 10

Children will be trained in dance and music


  • It will be held simultaneously in rural areas of Kolar, Tumkur and Hassan
  • Over 300 children likely to take part in the mela
  • On May 10, the programme `Children's Voice' will be held

    MYSORE: The annual Chinnara Mela, organised by theatre repertoire Rangayana, will commence on April 10. It will be inaugurated by Minister for Housing D.T. Jayakumar. The mela will be held simultaneously in the rural areas of Kolar, Tumkur and Hassan districts.

    Rangayana deputy director M.G. Sadanandaiah told presspersons here on Friday that Rangayana would organise the month-long mela with the help of theatre groups in rural areas in an effort to reach rural population. Among others who would participate in the inaugural function to be held at Vanaranga Auditorium in Rangayana theatre complex include senior theatre and film artiste K.S. Ashwath and Rangayana director Chidambara Rao Jambe.

    Training

    Providing details of the 10th edition of Chinnara Mela, which has become popular with children, Mr. Sadanandaiah said that over 300 children were likely to take part. Resource persons would train children in dance, music, fine arts and folk arts.

    "On May 10, thousands of children from Mysore, Hassan and Tumkur districts would take part in a programme called `Children's Voice' to draw the attention of the Government towards theatre."
