VISAKHAPATNAM: Celebration of the celestial wedding of Sriramachandra Murthy with Sitammavaru, distribution of panakam (water sweetened with jaggery) and distribution of prasadam marked the celebration of Sriramanavami, the birth of Rama, on Friday.

At several temples people worshipped the Lord and witnessed the performance of the kalyanam. Thousands of devotees thronged the Sri Krishna (Guruvayur) Mandir and witnessed the kalyanam performed on a tastefully decorated mantapam. Cultural programmes were presented in the evening.

At Shirdi Saibaba Spiritual Centre in Sitammadhara North Extension, a large number of devotees participated in the performing of the kalyanam. A large number of people partook in the lunch after the wedding.

The kalyanam was celebrated with fervour at the Sri Rukminisameta Prasanna Panduranga Swamy vari temple on the Beach Road. After the kalyanam a large number of people were fed.

At the temple in Visalakshinagar more than 25 couples participated in the performance of the celestial wedding.

    ISKCON gesture

International Society for Krishna Consciousness at Pandurangapuram organised a special bhajan and distributed free meals to 500 mentally-challenged children of Lebenshilfe on the occasion of Sri Rama Navami.

VIZIANAGARAM: Minister for Marketing B. Satyanarayana and his wife and Zilla Parishad chairperson B. Jhansi Lakshmi offered silk clothes and worshipped Lord Sri Rama and his consort Sita at Ramatheerthalu temple on the occasion of Sri Rama Navami on Friday.

The Minister and his wife were received with temple honours by Executive Officer T. Subba Lakshmi and priest K.V. Acharylu. Thousands of devotees lined up at the temple to offer prayers. The Endowments Department made elaborate arrangements at the temple.

Sri Rama Navami was celebrated all over the Godavari districts with gaiety and fervour as large number of devotees thronged different temples to witness Sri Sitarama kalyanam.

In the Godavari districts, there is a rich tradition that the kalyanam is performed in one of the traditional family in a street in each town and like that at least 100 to 1,000 Sitarama kalyanams are performed in each village and town.

    Another Bhadradri

Kodandarama Swami temple in Pedapudi mandal of East Godavari district is popularly known as another Bhadrachalam, where the two towers (Galigopurams) of the temple can be seen from even a distance of 10 km. Ancestral trust board chairman Dwarampoodi Sridevi Mahalakshmi and her husband, former MLA Satyanarayana Reddy made elaborate arrangements for the Sri Sitarama kalyanam.

Some 50,000 devotees from the two Godavari districts and other parts of the State witnessed the celestial wedding. One more unique thing in this temple kalyanam is that the Archaka Swamis use original pearls for `Talambralu' as is a tradition in Bhadrachalam.

    Kotilingala Devasthanam

Rama kalyanam was performed at Seethampeta Rama Mandiram and at Ramanjaneya temple on the bank of river Godavari.
