Court summons Rajapalayam DSP

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has summoned the Deputy Superintendent of Police of Rajapalayam in Virudhunagar district to the court on April 13 along with the case diary relating to the murder of a Rajapalayam-based lawyer on March 2.

The First Bench comprising Chief Justice A.P. Shah and Justice Prabha Sridevan gave the direction on Friday, on a public interest litigation petition filed by M. Velmurugan, secretary of the Madras High Court Advocates Association.

"A serious matter"

When the president of the association, S. Prabakaran, prayed for a CBI probe into the matter on the ground that the police had conducted investigation in a biased manner and that even the parents of the victim were intimidated into giving untrue statements, the Chief Justice said: "It is a serious matter. It needs to be investigated by an independent agency, though not by the CBI."
