Man killed in car mishap

NEW DELHI: A 62-year-old man was killed and his two sons were injured when their car fell into the Yamuna from the pontoon bridge at Geeta Colony in East Delhi on Friday night.

According to the police, Kashmiri Lal, who owned a leather factory at Krishna Nagar, was returning home along with his sons, Amit (27) and Sanjay (30), when the Maruti 800 car broke through the railing of the bridge and fell into the river around 10-15 p.m.

At the time, Sanjay was driving the car, while his father and younger brother were sitting on the rear seat. Kashmiri Lal died on the spot, while Amit and Sanjay have been admitted to LNJP Hospital.

Pirated books seized

NEW DELHI: Over 13,000 pirated books have been seized by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch of the Delhi police from different parts of the Capital. One person has been arrested.

The accused, Rajender Arya, ran his bookshop from Darya Ganj. The police recovered huge number of books from his shop.

At his instance, the EOW sleuths mounted a raid at his younger brother, Virender's ship at Krishna Nagar. However, he had fled by then. The police seized pirated books from his shop, residence and two godowns. Two cases were registered in this regard and a hunt launched for Virender.

Held in murder case

NEW DELHI: A 21-year-old man wanted by the Uttar Pradesh police in connection with a murder was arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi police on Friday.

The accused, Rajiv Verma, was arrested by a team under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police Ravi Shankar at Mukarba Chowk when he was about to board a bus to Jammu.

During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to having murdered one Abhinav over a dispute while playing cricket on the Vedic Inter College premises at Baraut in Uttar Pradesh.
