Joint police team interrogates Ahmed's relatives in Goa

Special Correspondent

PANAJI: Police found no links between Shamim Ahmed, an alleged member of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, who was brought by a joint team of the Karnataka and Goa police to Goa on Friday, and Tariq Batlo, who is suspected to be associated with the Tehrik-el-Mujahiddin, an offshoot of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, and is in the custody of the Goa police.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Ujjwal Mishra told The Hindu that Shamim Ahmed was taken back to Gulbarga by the Karnataka police on Saturday.

The team conducted searches at various houses of Ahmed's relatives where he is alleged to have stayed while he was in Goa.

The alleged terrorist, who was arrested in Gulbarga last week, is learnt to have received money from a travel agency and a foreign exchange firm in Vasco de Gama. Three transfers were paid at the agency's office between October and November 2004.
