Guru Freddy passes away

BANGALORE:
Guru Freddy, founder of the Nataraja Gurukula and Nature Awareness and Adventure Academy at Somanahalli on Kanakapura Road, died here on Saturday. He was 70 and had cancer. Called the "Belgian Swamiji" of Somanahalli, he was known for developing organic agriculture on wasteland. He was born Freddy Rene Marie Van der Borght in Belgium in March 1936 and took a degree in mechanical engineering from Frankfurt University. Freddy came to India in 1965 and became a disciple of Nataraja Guru of Kerala. The State Government had last year conferred on him the Kannada Rajyotsava Award.
