Institutions told to impart quality education

Raichur: Higher Education Minister D.H. Shankaramurthy said on Saturday that educational institutions should strive to impart quality education and become self-reliant.

They should not depend on government grants, he said. Speaking after inaugurating the "Dasa Sahitya Adhyayana Peetha" at the postgraduate centre here, he said educational institutions should aim at providing quality education. Gulbarga University should initiate steps to introduce postgraduate courses in all disciplines and improve infrastructure.

Amaregouda Bayyapur, Lingsugur MLA, said the elected representatives of the region had decided to contribute Rs. five lakh each for the development of the centre.

District in-charge Minister Hanumanthappa Alkod and Kalmala MLA Muniyappa Muddappa spoke.

A. Papa Reddy, Raichur MLA; Roopa Niranjan, president of the Raichur Zilla Panchayat, and Pamaiah Murari, vice-president; Pratap Singh Tiwari, head of the Department of Physical Education and acting Vice-Chancellor, and V.B. Coutinho, former Vice-Chancellor of Gulbarga University, were present.
