Staff Correspondent

State Government directs DSERT to formulate syllabus

Udupi: Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president Eric Ozario said on Friday that Konkani is likely to be introduced as a third language in classes VI to X in the State from 2007.

The State Government has asked the DSERT (Department of State Educational Research and Training) to formulate the syllabus for the language, he said. Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Ozario said the academy would start teaching Konkani in 30 schools of Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada districts from June 2006 on an experimental basis. The academy has accepted Kannada script for Konkani language in the State.

It had sought the opinion of Konkani organisations throughout the State and 65 per cent of them supported Kannada script.
