11 held on charge of duping tailor

  • A few persons approach the tailor and offer to sell gold found in a hidden treasure
  • Quoting the value at Rs. 8 lakhs, they offer to sell it for Rs. 3.15 lakhs
  • After testing the samples, he then goes to a pre-decided spot where he is roughed up and his cash taken away

    ANANTAPUR: A tailor lost his hard-earned money of Rs. 3.15 lakhs in his misadventure to purchase gold found in a hidden treasure at a cheap price.

    However, the district police arrested 11 persons of a gang that alleged duped the tailor and recovered Rs. 2.5 lakhs in cash from their possession on Sunday.

    Giving details to newspersons here, Additional SP S. Seshagiri Rao stated that one Shaik Azeez, owner of Bullet Tailors in the town, was approached by a few persons last month and offered to sell gold found in a hidden treasure at a cheap rate.

    They explained that the market value of the treasure (gold) was more than Rs. 8 lakhs and they bargained to dispose it of at Rs. 3.15 lakhs.

    After getting the samples of gold given by the persons introduced to him by a few acquaintances tested at goldsmiths, the tailor believed them and decided to go for it.

    He took Rs. 3.15 lakhs cash to Renukanagar crossroads in Somandepalli on March 28, as directed by the gang members.

    The gang members were already laying in wait there. When Azeez alighted the vehicle, he was roughed up. They then snatched the cash and sped away in another vehicle.

    The arrested were S. Thippamma, G. Nagaraju, G. Seena, G. Chalapathi and G. Anjaneyulu of Cholasamudram village in Lepakshi mandal, G. Shankarappa of Lepakshi, S. Ramanjinappa and S. Kistappa of Cholemarri Roddam mandal, C. Laxminarayana (team leader) and C. Adinarayana of Anantapur and C. Ramana of Pichireddy Kottala in Ramagiri mandal.
