Advani to begin yatra in State from April 12

BANGALORE: The former Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani will begin the Karnataka leg of the `Bharat Suraksha Yatra' from Bijapur on April 12. The yatra will cover Bijapur, Bagalkot, Gadag, Dharwad, Koppal and Bellary districts and end on April 15.

Mr. Advani, who is Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, is undertaking the yatra to highlight the "disastrous consequences" of minority appeasement politics and the threat to national security from jehadis and naxal activities. — Staff Reporter

Youth found murdered

MYSORE: A mutilated body of a youth was found on Town Hall premises facing the Makkaji Chowk taxi stand in Mysore on Sunday.

The police said the decomposed body with the head crushed appeared to be of a youth aged around 30. The youth wore black trousers and a blue shirt. The police suspect that miscreants might have murdered the youth three days ago. The incident came to light when the watchman of Town Hall alerted the police after foul smell pervaded the surroundings.

Woman dies of burns

Raichur: Padma (21), wife of Krishna, reportedly sustained burns when a lantern caught fire while she was asleep in her house at Kulsumbi Colony in the city on Friday. She was admitted at the District Civil Hospital where she died on Saturday. Police have registered a case. — Staff Correspondent

Four arrested

HUBLI: The Hubli police have arrested four persons, including three women, and recovered from them saris worth Rs. 10,000, which they allegedly stole from various shops in the city. The police gave the names of the arrested as Manoj Anandrao Sarnayak, Akkatai Ashok Chauhan, Sharada Maruti Suryavamshi and Surekha Mahesh Pawar, all natives of Kolhapur. They were caught while they were trying to dupe a cloth merchant in Hubli on Saturday. — Staff Correspondent

Maratha meet

MYSORE: A conference of Marathas was held at Kalamandira in the city on Sunday. Former Deputy Chief Minister and All India Progressive Janata Dal leader Siddaramaiah inaugurated the conference. Former Minister PGR Sindhia unveiled a portrait of Chatrapathi Shivaji. Former Minister S R Morey was the chief guest. Osho literature

MYSORE: Osho Mahima Meditation will be organising a week-long exhibition-cum-sale of Osho literature at its centre on D. Devaraj Urs Road in the city from April 12. Books, cassettes, audio and video CDs will be on display during the exhibition, a release said. Two drown in lake

MYSORE: A forty-year-old woman and her niece are reported to have drowned in Sannakere lake in Nagavala village in Mysore Taluk on Thursday. The police said that Basammanni, 40, had gone to wash clothes with her niece, Tejaswini. Tejaswini slipped into the lake and while trying to rescue her, Basammanni too was drowned. The Yelwal Police have registered a case and are investigating. — Staff Correspondent

Dharna

HUBLI: Religious heads and members of several organisations will stage a dharna here on Monday to press for the inclusion of Hubli-Dharwad in the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of representatives of various organisations held in the presence of Sri Gurusiddha Rajayogindra Swamiji and Sri Chandrashekhar swamiji at the Town Hall here on Sunday. — Staff Correspondent

Madikeri: The Budakattu Krishikara Sangha (BKS), an organisation of tribal people in Kodagu, will oppose the demand of the Codava National Council (CNC) for primitive tribal status, which the BKS called a "forward community" in the district.
