CHENNAI: They looked eager to handle the tiny tots. Their enthusiasm and creativity was evident in the cultural show they put up. Teachers who completed their nursery-training course at the Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan Teachers' centre received their certificates here on Thursday.
`Excellent contents'
"I went through the course content. It is excellent and encompasses all the skills a nursery teacher would require," said Sudha Mahesh, principal, Headstart School, who distributed the certificates. In her valedictory address, Ms. Mahesh said, "Teachers should go beyond subjects and give holistic development to children. There is no end to a teacher's learning."
Creative teaching
Ms. Mahesh said a teacher's job would not be "mundane" if they constantly worked on creative teaching methodologies. "Twenty years ago, when we were struggling to find good teachers, we decided to involve parents of our students. No one can take greater interest in a child than the parent," said Mrs. Y.G.Parthasarathy,
Participation hailed
Dean and Director of PSBB group of schools. She said there were not as many good training institutions as there were till a few years ago. Mrs. Y.G.P also said she was very happy to see the teacher trainees shed their inhibition and participate in the programme enthusiastically. Academic Administrator, co-ordinator and supervisor of the Teachers' centre K.S. Vijayalakshmi said teachers were trained in several aspects such as western and Indian music, dance, creative drama and listening skills apart from the training in nutrition and realeted subjects as well as first aid.
