Not His Majesty's Government, say Nepal democracy activists

Anti-King demonstrators defy curfew, remove royal signboards

Kathmandu: Anti-King demonstrators have replaced the signboards of "His Majesty's Government" with those of Nepal Government, media reports said on Monday.

The supporters of the seven parties replaced such signboards in Rupandehi, Pyuthan and other offices in western Nepal, Kantipur reports said.

The activists began erasing ``His Majesty's Government'' from the government signboards saying monarchy had lost relevance in the country.

The demonstrators raised slogans against the King and demanded complete democracy in the Himalayan Kingdom defying curfew in different parts of the country since the last five days.

Meanwhile, more than five dozen teachers and professionals were arrested in Pokhara while taking out peaceful protest rallies defying the curfew. In Dhangadhi, western Nepal, more than 100 protesters were injured in police baton charge. — UNI
