Practitioners to be appointed in district-, taluk-level hospitals: Minister

Bangalore: The State Government plans to appoint practitioners of Unani, Ayurveda and homoeopathy in all the district- and taluk-level hospitals, Minister for Health and Family Welfare R. Ashok said here on Monday.

He was speaking after flagging off a rally to mark World Homoeopathy Day, which marks the birth anniversary of Samuel Hahnemann, the father of homoeopathy.

Mr. Ashok said there was a need to promote homeopathy and the Indian Systems of Medicine (ISMH) for ensuring better healthcare, because they were low-cost and affordable to all sections of society.

The programme was organised by the Arogya Dasoha Charitable Trust.

The Government was committed to having ISMH and Unani doctors in all district-level hospitals in the State and was working on this proposal, he added.

Legislative Council Chairman V.R. Sudarshan said the practitioners of Ayurveda, homoeopathy and Unani must be encouraged because they provide low-cost medicines and treatment.

Karnataka Homoeopathic Doctors Association president B.T. Rudresh appealed to the Government to establish homoeopathy centres in all the district hospitals.

Noted actor of yesteryear Bharathi Vishnuvardhan was present.
