Hyderabad: Congress leaders from Telangana on Monday asked the two representatives of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in the Union Cabinet to resign and prove their strength by fighting the next elections on their own. Talking to the media Telangana Regional Congress Coordination Committree members A.R. Amos and P. Goverdhan Reddy and chairman of the APSRTC G. Prakash Rao described as `naïve' the statement of Union Minister of State for Rural Development A. Narendra that his party was responsible for the Congress wresting power in the State. If the TRS really had a mass base, it ought to have been reflected in the elections to municipal and cooperative bodies, which it contested on its own.
Reasons for defeat
They asked Mr. Narendra to explain the reasons for his defeat from Bhongir Assembly segment in Nalgonda district in the last elections if he or his party were so popular. They demanded that he should further clarify whether he was planning to rejoin the BJP or merge the TRS with the BJP. As for separate Statehood for Telangana, the Congress alone was capable of creating it and AICC president Sonia Gandhi was seized of the matter.
