ONGOLE: Principal Assistant Sessions Judge K.V. Ramanaji Rao here issued summons on Monday to Minister for Cooperation M.V. Raghavan, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary K. Sudhakaran, MLA, and his friend T.P. Rajeevan to appear before him on June 5 in connection with a case relating to an attempt made to murder E.P. Jayarajan, central committee member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). Mr. Jayarajan, MLA, in his deposition before the judge here on February 27, alleged that the three accused had conspired to kill him. On Monday, the judge agreed to include them as accused in the case and issued them summons. According to the prosecution, Mr. Jayarajan was returning home after attending a party meeting in New Delhi by Rajadhani Express on April 12, 1995. As the train was running between Bapatla and Chirala here, an accused, Sasi, allegedly shot at him. Sasi was accompanied by Dinesh. While Mr. Jayarajan collapsed on the spot, both the accused jumped off the running train. Mr. Jayarajan was given first aid at Chirala and Ongole and later rushed to Chennai. Sasi was murdered later, and Dinesh was arrested. In a statement in Thiruvananthapuram, the CPI(M) State secretariat sought the sacking of Mr. Raghavan from the Ministry in the wake of the Ongole Sessions Court's decision. The police had arrested the hirelings who had allegedly shot Mr. Jayarajan from Andhra Pradesh and Chennai. All along, the attempt of the United Democratic Front Government was to shield the guilty, the CPI(M) secretariat alleged.
