HYDERABAD : There will be no official or unscheduled power cut for the residents of twin cities and surrounding municipalities during this summer. This assurance comes from Heeralal Samariya, Chairman and Managing Director, Central Power Distribution Company of Andhra Pradesh Ltd. Speaking to media persons on Monday, he said despite more new services and increase in demand, the company was striving for uninterrupted quality power supply in twin cities. With about 20,000 new services being released every month, the demand in twin cities touched 763 MW on April 6 as against 639 MW of last year and the energy drawal of Hyderabad was expected to touch 16 million units per day during May. "But the company is geared up to meet the increase in demand as an investment of about Rs.400 crores on system improvements and load growth is being made." To meet rural feeder requirement, three-phase supply for seven hours was being given and in the single phase from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. in rural areas. The demand for power was expected to come down in a week with completion of harvest following which there would be improvement in supply to mandal headquarters.
New sub-stations
On frequent interruption in power supply, Mr. Samariya said it was due to tripping following overloading and the break in supply was due to time lag in changing over to another service station. Even such inconvenience would be taken care of as 20 new 33/11 kv sub-stations were coming up in the city, he said. Of them, five were already charged and another five would be ready by April-end, he added. They were at Gosha Mahal, Tokatta, Lumbini Park, Kandikal Gate, Vital Wadi, Attapur, Addagutta, Bansilal Peta, Subhash Nagar and Machcha Bollaram. Mr. Samariya said the deadline for installation of capacitors for pumpsets by the farmers who were availing of free power was extended to April-end. So far 25 per cent of farmers installed capacitors.
