VIJAYAWADA: The district administration will first focus on removing eight big fish tanks in the next phase of `Operation Kolleru', which will be launched on April 20. According to the earlier orders of the Central Empowered Committee (CEC), time is given to the leaseholders from April 3 to 20 to vacate the tanks and take away their belongings (pump sets and sheds). In the latest development on Monday, the administration got information that the Supreme Court had ordered taking up the operation again to remove the Kolleru encroachments from April 20. With this, officials are only awaiting the written orders of the apex court to begin making preparations for the next round. District Collector Navin Mittal said that the court's order was expected in a day or two and, based on the actual order, the preparations for `Operation Kolleru' would be made afresh. At the public hearing in Hyderabad last month, the empowered committee constituted by the apex court heard the grievances of different groups and gave time to leaseholders for vacating the freshwater lake. The latest orders of the apex court are described as the last straw on the camel's back as far as the fish tank owners are concerned. The operation is likely to be aimed at completing the task of restoring the past ambience of the lake. In the earlier operation, the administration removed bunds of 25 out of 33 large fish tanks.
