When is `Vishukani' to be seen? Is it on April 14 or 15? A debate is raging in astrological circles here. V.S. Ramakrishnan Nair, president of the Centre for Astrological Research and Development, avers that on the day of Vishukani, sun should be in `Medam' rasi. Kani is to be seen two `ghatikas' before sunrise. That is 48 minutes before sunrise. Sun enters Medam rasi on April 14 at 6.19 a.m. and, hence, Vishukani can be only on April 15, he argues. A Parappanangadi-based astrologer, however, has ruled that Vishu falls on April 14. A Kolkata-based publication, Indian Ephemeris, has also reportedly claimed that Vishu falls on April 15.
